Review: The Bourne Identity

The Bourne Identity, starring Matt Damon as a spy who can't remember his name, has exactly what The Sum of All Fears and Bad Company are missing: quality. This film is very good, while the other two are crap.

Based on Robert Ludlum's novel of the same name, Damon brings the character to life in a movie that keeps moving forward all the time. There are some great action sequences, including a hair-raising car chase, and he beats up the bad guys "real good" as he tries to figure out who he is and why people are after him.

Some name dropping here: Bourne is directed by Doug Liman, whose work includes Swingers and Go. Damon's female pal is played by Franka Potente. You might remember her from the 1998 film Run Lola Run.

In 1988, The Bourne Identity was a made-for-television film starring Richard Chamberlain (the king of the mini-series) and Jaclyn Smith. Impress your friends by telling them that.
