Trailer Review: The Avengers Trailer #1

On this day, October 11, 2011 Christmas came early for every fanboy, geek, and true believer of all ages. The first 'Official' trailer for next summer's Avengers film debuted online earlier this morning in epic fashion.

Normally upcoming summer films of this magnitude unveil their first trailer or teaser in between Doritos and Budweiser commercials during Super Bowl Sunday but the folks at Marvel and Disney don't want to waste anytime hyping their product. This brief 122 second trailer gives movie-goers their first glimpse of what to expect when they buy their ticket stub next May and so far I predict it will be money well spent.

Story wise the trailer's reason for forming this comic book super group seems to be to stop Thor's brother, Loki, as he arrives to Earth and starts blowing everything up. Granted there most definitely will be more to this plot but as a starting point I'm sold.

So you can spend more time watching and less time reading I'll quickly point of some of the highlights or just my favourite parts of the trailer; plus what wasn't in the trailer but might still be in the film:

  • Shots of Cap and Thor both fight each other (so cool) and of course alongside together
  • Loki throwing an Iron Man-less Stark out of a window
  • Scarlett Johansson looking badass as she manhandles bad guys while everything explodes around her
  • Robert Downey Jr. cracking wise all the way through and still sporting his Mark VI suit
  • No shots of the Helicarriers (the iconic airborne tactical bases used by S.H.I.E.L.D.), exterior at least
  • No shots of Cobie Smulders as agent S.H.I.E.L.D. Maria Hill
  • A short but awesome glimpse of Ruffalo getting to Hulk out for the first time

Remember it's just a trailer so less is more. If we see all the cool stuff now what's there to look forward to come May 2012? Naturally fans will want to see more of their favourite Marvel characters but this trailer provided a ton of additional eye candy that the teaser at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger left out. With winter around the corner summer can't come soon enough.
