Review: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow would have been better with an interesting script. It could have been better with a more engaging cast. Considering all the money spent on making it, it should have been better.

This is one of the few movies of late that I've really been looking forward to seeing. I mean, Jude Law and Oscar winners Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelia Jolie. What could go wrong? Where do I begin?

The promotional material for this movie brags about the actors being the only real things in the movie. Everything else is done on computer. So, the actors must react to nothing. What do we get in return? Nothing.

Jude Law â€" who's in every movie â€" is all right, but Gwyneth looks either heavily-medicated or perhaps she's just... plain... bored. Jolie doesn't have much to do. Her character doesn't appear until about an hour in.

The plot is thus: someone is killing the world's top scientists. Gwyneth's character, reporter Polly Perkins (love the name), is trying to find out what's going on. Jude (Sky Captain) is called in to save the day, and I don't think I'm spoiling anything by saying that he does save the day.

The movie is not all bad. There are some nice touches (the original Wizard of Oz is playing in a movie theatre) but the movie is just not very engaging. I'll leave you with this thought: Hey Jude, what's it all about?
