The festival begins, and my task has been laid out: chronicle my experiences at one of the best comedy festivals in Canada, and make it seem somewhat enticing so that I can justify being here and hopefully get people out to see more shows. I can do that.
Problem is, reviewing comedy shows is a tad redundant.
Every spring since 2002, some of the best stand-up comics from across Canada -- and a few from the U.S. and Europe -- have converged on the Canadian prairies for the Winnipeg Comedy Festival.
The Winnipeg Comedy Festival celebrates its 15th year in 2016, and is once again bringing many of Canada's top comedians – along with a few favourites from the U.S. – out to the middle of nowhere (ie. ShowbizMonkeys.com's headquarters of Winnipeg) to make a whole bunch of people laugh.
The first thing I noticed upon arriving at the Gala screening of Janie Jones at this year's Toronto International Film Festival was the inordinate number of beautiful and svelte six-foot-tall women towering over me -- enough to make anyone of normal proportions (i.e. myself) a trifle self-conscious.
