What's On This Weekend? - October 3/4

Check in with us each Friday to find out what's new this weekend in TV.

My pick for this weekend: Battles of the Blades on CBC on Sunday, obviously. Read below for details.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3

8:00 PM
FOX Cops
GLOBAL Project Runway Canada

9:00 PM
FOX America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back
BBC AMERICA Robin Hood

10:00 PM
CBS 48 Hours Mystery

11:29 PM
NBC / GLOBAL Saturday Night Live
(Ryan Reynolds / Lady Gaga. One hopes they will both be more entertaining than Megan Fox and U2 were last week. Disappointing.)

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4

7:00 PM
CBS 60 Minutes
ABC America's Funniest Home Videos
(Season premiere.)
CTV Degrassi: The Next Generation
(Season premiere.)
CBC Heartland
(Season premiere.)

8:00 PM
FOX / GLOBAL The Simpsons
CBS / CTV The Amazing Race
ABC / CITY Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition
CBC Battle of the Blades
(How come I didn't hear about this before?? This is essentially The Frozen North's answer to Dancing with the Stars: pairing male hockey stars with the female half of champion figure skating pairs in an ice dancing competition featuring the likes of Claude Lemieux and Shae-Lynn Bourne, and Craig Simpson and Jamie Sale. Unreal. It's like a dream.)

8:30 PM
FOX / GLOBAL The Cleveland Show

9:00 PM
FOX / GLOBAL Family Guy
CBS Three Rivers
(Series premiere.)
ABC Desperate Housewives
HBO Curb Your Enthusiasm
SHOWTIME Dexter

9:30 PM
FOX / GLOBAL American Dad
HBO Bored to Death

10:00 PM
CBS / CTV Cold Case
ABC / GLOBAL Brothers & Sisters
(Season premiere, 10:01 PM.)
AMC Mad Men
SHOWTIME Californication

10:30 PM
HBO Entourage
(Season finale.)

Hockey "stars" isn't exactly accurate. :P Several brawlers, a couple 3rd and 4th-liners, and only one legitimate star (Hall of Famer Glenn Anderson). The figure skaters ARE stars (Brasseur, Salé, Bourne, and Underhill), but the hockey players are less famous to the average population than even Aaron Carter and other D-list Dancing with the Stars contestants.

SNL was good last night, though.
