Canadian Idol Season 6: Top 24 Results

I would like to personally thank whoever came up with this idea of small-group performances on results night, and I sincerely hope they keep it every week until the numbers dwindle a bit.

I better get to it, since Ben's all No-Nonsense Mulroney tonight and I desperately seek his approval.

Lindsay Robins, Shaun, Paul and Martin sing "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," with Paul on guitar and Shaun on piano. It's nice, but there are some questionable harmonies. I'm not sure who's to blame.

Lindsay Barr and Adam sing (and play) "Midnight Hour," and it is... not as nice, and I think I will blame their lacklustre guitar-playing for that. I mean, the entire song has like, two chords. You gotta do something with them.

Mookie, Earl, Mark and Jessica sing "Old Time Rock and Roll," and while they're all very good individually, they don't mesh well at all. But I promise it gets better...

And it does, right here, with Mitch, Amberly, Katelyn and Jesse, who do an absolutely captivating version of, oh hey, "Yellow" by Coldplay. We really like this song on this show, I guess. These four have got perfect, effortless harmonies all the way through, and they're so relaxed; it's a genius grouping, so ten points to whomever decided on it. It's also the first group with truly complementary instrumentation (Jesse and Mitch on acoustic guitars, playing in unison most of the way through), and even "Katelyn Dawn" is better by association with these other three. Ben really loved it too, so you know it had to be good, heh. I just watched it five times in a row. Can I download this somewhere? Seriously.

In what could really go either way, Gary, Omar and Drew are grouped together for "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," and fortunately for all of us, it's fantastic. They too have tight harmonies and they really listen to each other – Gary even manages to scale back his intensity when he needs to blend with the other guys. And I have to tell you, Drew is really growing on me at a rapid pace here. Ben offers to be the fourth to make them a quartet, but the guys aren't very receptive of the idea.

Tetiana and the Pigotts are doing "Fly Like an Eagle." No, I don't know whose idea it was. But it was a good one. They are having so much fun with it, and I always support fun on stage. They clearly love performing together, so it's really a pleasure to watch them. Their arrangement and vibe are cool and the vocals are, of course, strong. It's good!

Lastly, Theo, Lisa, Katherine and Marie-Pierre sing "Imagine" with Theo accompanying on piano. It's actually rather touching, and I have no major complaints. Lots of nice harmonies.

With that, we're on to results, and after the break and a little pep talk from the judges, Ben just throws 'er out there with no ado: from Monday night, Tetiana and Lindsay Barr didn't receive enough votes; from Tuesday, Lindsay Robins and Shaun.

WELL. That's two people I voted for gone – Tetiana and Lindsay Robins. (Yes, I vote. You don't?) I'm saddest about Teti, but I'll – surprisingly – miss Shaun as well. I feel like he could have done some cool things on the show. The Lindsays are neither here nor there.

What's going to happen next week? Do you think they'll keep the match-ups the same, or switch around Monday's and Tuesday's groups? How did you feel about who went home, and who's going next week?

Tetiana's a fairly strong singer, so that sucks, and Shaun had personality to go along with his mediocre singing ability (seriously -- I think even I'm a better singer than he is! :P). The other 2 departures are unsurprising.

I thought Teti was good, so I'll miss her. I disliked Shaun's personality so gald he is gone. And I wasn't not really attatched to either Lindsay. I'm just ready to movie on and get to this top 10...or 12, or whatever it will be.

@ Paul: I'd agree on your voice vs. Shaun's voice. There was something about him that really kept sucking me in, though -- I don't know if it was his guitar skillz or just the raw passion in his performance, but I think I'd go see his show here in Vancouver if I ever hear of one.
