Canadian Idol Season 6: Top 16 Results

Are you ready to meet your Top 10?

Is it really going to be only 10?

Up first to hear their fate, it's Martin and Mark from Monday, and Gary and Drew from Tuesday. Mark is through (boooo) and Martin is not (phewf). Gary is not through (aww, but not surprising); Drew is (yay!).

Next, Theo and Mookie, and Earl and Katherine. Oh come on, Theo and Mookie are both through. (I'm right, of course, although Ben makes Theo wait until he clears up the Tuesday people before easing his mind.) Earl and Katherine are also both through. Uh-oh. This spells trouble for at least one of my favourites from Tuesday.

That's six people so far.

Amberly and Omar (Amberly looks stressed out), and Katelyn and Mitch. Amberly is through (yay!) and Omar is not (YAY!). Oh wow, I'm so off the hook there. Too bad Newfoundland will keep Mark Day around until Top 4 or so. Mitch is Top 10 (THANK GOD... he's the only person I managed to get votes in for last night), and Katelyn is not.

That's eight.

It's down to Adam and Marie-Pierre from Monday, and the Pigotts from Tuesday. SAY IT AIN'T SO, BEN. Tell me there's a twist! This is so lame!

Adam's through. Marie-Pierre is, obviously, not.

I CANNOT BELIEVE A PIGOTT IS GOING TO LOSE A SPOT IN THE TOP 10 DUE TO ADAM FREAKING CASTELLI.

Excuse me, I get a little shouty when I'm upset.

The Pigotts are in good spirits about it, even when Ben throws it to commercial before telling us who's in and who's not. I'm still holding out hope here.

Back from commercials, Ben asks the brothers if they're ready. Oliver says he absolutely is, and Sebastian says, "Not even slightly, Mr. Mulroney." Ben tells us the final member of the Top 10 is Sebastian, and Oliver graciously wigs out for him. Ben starts asking Oliver if this is bittersweet for him and if he has anything to say, but never actually says that he's cut, and as Oliver goes on about how wonderful it's been, etc., Ben's got this goofy, amused look on his face, and I'm just WAITING for him to spring a surprise Top 11 tie situation on us...

Doesn't happen.

I'll miss you, Oliver.

Your Top 10: Mark Day, Drew Wright, Mookie Morris, Earl Stevenson, Katherine St-Laurent, Theo Tams, Amberly Thiessen, Mitch MacDonald, Adam Castelli, and Sebastian Pigott.

Who's your pick to win? Who's going to go home first? And the real question: can one of the only two girls left possibly last with so many hot guys around, when you consider all the women who vote on this show?

If Adam doesn't go home next week, I will THROW THINGS. For real.

At this point, I'm sure it'll be a boy who wins (and a cute one at that), but I have NO CLUE as to which one.

There are lots of good performers in the Top 10. I even don't mind Adam as an artist, even though he's made such horrible song choices week-in and week-out. However, the fact that MARK DAY is in the Top 10 of Canadian Idol and OLIVER PIGOTT is not is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in my life. Normally, I think "Vote for the Worst" is pretty funny, but not when there's this much genuine talent. It's just a shame, that's all.

All I can hope for now is that Sebastian wins and because of that, both Pigotts get famous. Actually, I have a feeling Oliver will end up with a record deal (and probably a better one that he'd get with Idol) after his time on the show anyway.

I'm a bit worried that the format of the Top 10 might throw me a bit, and the show will become a lot more like the American Idol I remember and less of what I liked about the episodes up until this point (not too much flash, just artistry, for good or bad). Should I just not bother watching from here on in?

Time will tell. In general, the themes on Canadian Idol tend to be a bit better and less restricting than AI... even if the production values are a little lower. So maybe you'll still like it -- it hasn't been that flashy in seasons past. Just, like you say , good old-fashioned artists playing music.
