DVD Review: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys - Season 6

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys was a show that no one ever thought would evolve into the phenomenon it became. After six successful seasons and five tele-films later, we take a look back at the mythical hero (Kevin Sorbo)'s television journey as the final season of the series hits DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment.

The final season was a rather short one and the eight episodes contained within it are more a swan song tribute to the series than memorable episodes.

The biggest hi-lite of the collection is the rather great episode "Hercules, Tramps & Thieves", which in pure Hercules fashion melds famous co-stars, humor, and a zany premise for a fun episode. The episode also guest stars Bruce Campbell as his Hercules persona Autolycus and Traci Lords as his long forgotten wife, Luscious. I would have loved to have seen a Campbell and Lords commentary on that episode.

What the biggest draw to this set might be is that it contains more hours of extras, commentaries, and interviews than it does episodes. The DVD set is the perfect fan set. I just wished there were more episodes in the final season.

The set is perfect for those die-hard Hercules fans who want to know every little detail about the series and its eventual conclusion.

DVD Details: The set includes audio commentaries and interviews on almost every episode in the set. It includes footage of the wrap party, a special effects featurette, photo gallery, final episode behind-the-scenes feature, and alternate unused opening credits for the series. The set also includes a comprehensive CD-ROM that focuses on the chronicles of the series, in-depth cast bios, trivia, and mythology.
