Synopsis

Ben (Viggo Mortensen), a devoted father of six living a secluded life in the isolated forests of the Pacific Northwest, raises his children on a rigorous physical and intellectual schedule. Their paradise crumbles when his wife passes away and he's forced to take his children and abandon the comforts of his rural retreat.

His notions of parenthood are put to the test when they confront the real world. He takes the kids to a restaurant and when they ask what cola is, Ben tells them it's "poison water." When they go for dinner with friends, they wonder how the chicken was killed, with an axe or a knife? When Ben's oldest son has his first encounter with a girl, he immediately proposes. Ben has his work cut out for him as he tries to have his children integrate into society.
