Review: Ocean's Twelve

Some movies you just know are going to be great. Alas, this is not one.

I was disappointed in Ocean's Twelve and I'm not quite sure why. The cast is the same as in 2001's Ocean's Eleven and it has the same sharp sense of humor, but the plot just sort of sits there waiting to be kick-started.

Steven Soderbergh, once the darling of indie Hollywood, is now pretty much mainstream. That's what happens when you make Solaris with George Clooney and Full Frontal with Julia Roberts and no one goes to see them.

All right, back to Twelve. Since Danny Ocean and his crew can't work in the States anymore because of the heist in Las Vegas, they decide Europe is their next stop. But here's the catch: Andy Garcia, the owner of the casino where Ocean's Eleven stole 160 million dollars, wants his money back (with interest) and he's giving them two weeks to do it or else they're dead. Does their heist work? What do you think?

There's a nice turn by Julia Roberts' character Tess. She must pretend to be someone else. That someone else is a pregnant Julia Roberts, because of course during the making of Twelve, Roberts was pregnant.

A new character in Twelve is Catherine Zeta-Jones â€" who's not very believable as a police detective â€" but she's a babe, so we'll forgive the casting director.

This will not make my ten best list, but it will also not make the ten worst. As usual, judge for yourself.
