So the big news this week is of course the Oscar nominations, causing people like me to over-analyze everything. Who can blame us? The Academy Awards is our Superbowl. I will be making observations about the Oscar race for the next couple of weeks.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards are coming up on February 27th, and with one month to go until the biggest awards show in entertainment, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this morning announced the Oscar nominations bright and early.

Walkey Talk: Francotastic Oscar host!

It was announced this week that James Franco and Anne Hathaway will be co-hosting the 83rd Academy Awards this year on February 27th, 2011.

I adore both of these actors and I wish them well with perhaps the most thankless job in Hollywood.

Oscar nominations: Avatar and The Hurt Locker lead the way with 9 nominations each

For the first time in over half a century, there are ten films nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Many thought that this may dilute the prestigious category, while others hoped it would open up the door to certain types of films that deserved nominations but are often ignored by the Oscars.

Back in February, ShowbizMonkeys.com was once again invited to hit up the red carpet at the Academy Awards. But just like last year, we weren't given access for the official pre-show arrivals. That didn't stop us from seeing a few stars and getting to ask a few questions, though.

Okay, I'll admit it -- I didn't watch this year's Academy Awards. Not yet, anyway. I do plan to watch them later this week, courtesy of my PVR, as I've watched every Oscars telecast for as long as I can remember.

After a few years of critically-lauded but hardly-seen films vying for the top spots at the Academy Awards, many were predicting that things this year would return back to the so-called "Golden Age", when commercially successful films could still win the big awards.

The 80th Annual Academy Awards was a relatively short (at only 3 hours and 20 minutes) and relatively tame affair, almost as if there was little time to prepare for it.
