Review: Must Love Dogs

Dogs are great. This movie is not great. It's a dog. That, in a nutshell, is my review.

So, this is what Diane Lane has been up to since her Oscar nomination for Unfaithful. John Cusack is along for the ride in a movie without style or plot. I mean, it has a plot, but a 2nd grader can tell you what's going to happen and how it ends. It is directed by Gary David Goldberg, a TV veteran responsible for Family Ties and Spin City.

Women of a "certain age" in Hollywood complain, and rightfully so, about no roles for the "mature" actress. It's no wonder: Diane Lane is 40, and if this is the best Hollywood can do, shame on them.

Anyway, I've digressed a lot. Here's the story: Sarah is divorced and pretty much given up on dating again. Jake is the same, but we're led to believe he's the sensitive type because he builds his own boats. Both get involved in an online dating service and of course hook up, but not without several sitcom-like situations.

Stockard Channing comes off best as one of Christopher Plummer's lady-friends. Plummer plays Lane's father.

Enough already. Go rent Sleepless in Seattle or You've Got Mail. The plots are the same, but at least they have style and plot, not like this dog.
