Review: RV

I went to this movie expecting to get about 90 minutes of good-natured fun without having to worry about plot-points and hidden messages. RV delivered. There weren't really any surprises but I didn't expect any.

Robin Williams is Bob Munro, a put-upon executive who is feeling pressure at work, a wife (Curb Your Enthusiasm's Cheryl Hines) that is none too understanding, and two kids who don't really respect anything he does. Because of problems with his boss (Arrested Development's Will Arnett), a trip to Hawaii is turned into a trip to the Rockies in a recreational vehicle.

At one of the RV campgrounds, the Munro family runs into the Gornickes, played by Jeff Daniels and Kristin Chenoweth. One of their kids, "Moon", is played by Chloe Sonnenfeld, the director's daughter. The Gornickes are every regular family's nightmare: they get along and they sing.

There are several sight gags as Robin Williams tries to navigate the RV and some icky moments as he cleans the vehicle's bathroom. Is there a happy ending? Of course. We won't see RV at the Oscars next year but it was a lot of fun.

This RV is a nice ride.
