EIFF Review: Vixen!

Meyer was the first master of sexploitation flicks, movies whose cast involved the busty, buxom, and big-breasted actresses of that era. Well Russ went to that great porn ranch in the sky last year, but he left us a laundry list of one-track-minded pics as his legacy, including this real gem. One of the first films to receive an X rating from the MPAA, Vixen! has few redeeming qualities: awful dialogue, atrocious acting, and a plot structure that would give Fellini convulsions. Who are we kidding though? That's not why people watch his movies. They played this one at 11pm for a good reason. Perverts like to hide in the dark.

All kidding aside, this BC-shot film has great scenery before we even talk about Erica Gavin who plays Vixen Palmer, the wife of a bush pilot (!). They own a cabin in the woods and give fishing tours. Wink wink. They don't really, y'know. I've never before seen an erotic table dance with a trout as an implement of arousal. It happens in Vixen!, folks. Some things are just plain wrong â€" like the ridiculous racism aimed at Niles, a black draft dodger who Vixen for some reason just can't stand. What this social commentary is doing in a movie like this I'll never know, but it is definitely out of place.

I will say that I enjoyed watching some parts of this movie. I just won't say which parts. Wink, wink. Oh stop it.
