The Guarani, one of Brazil's oldest Indian communities, are forced to live in a reservation, where they have no option other than working as semi-slaves in sugarbeet plantations. Many of their young people commit suicide, and after one suicide, a small group of the Indians decide to leave the reservation and re-inhabit their ancestral land, which has belonged to wealthy white men for several generations.
