Synopsis

Country girl Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (Keira Knightley) marries an author, known simply as "Willy" (Dominic West). When he asks her to write novels to be published under his name, she discovers he does this with other people as well – having them ghost write his novels. She dutifully writes a book called Claudine a l'ecole, based her school days. It becomes an instant success with young women, flying off the shelves like no other book attributed to her husband. The novel is so popular that it spawns a number of products.

However, as her husband gets all the glory, Colette slowly comes to the realization that this doesn't sit well with her. When Willy pushes her to write another Claudine novel, she refuses, so he locks her in a room and tells her to write. Eventually, Colette pushes back, demanding her liberty.
