Comedy

Mid-Range is not Jamel Johnson's first foray into comedy albums. Jamel, who rose up through the D.C. comedy scene and is now a regular at the Improv, launches into a tight and punchy 30ish-minute set. Consisting of 10 tracks, we don't waste any time going straight into a great take on health, Burger King, and handsy TSA agents.
Jamel's set is immediately engaging and entirely endearing. Covering material from toxic masculinity and incel culture, to the precarious place that bigger boyfriends fill, to one of my favourite bits titled "Black Music for the White Revolution", the set and the album nimbly jumps between topics and material while remaining cohesive and fun.
Every track stands on its own, able to get a good laugh with no filler, with even the shortest track at 2:28 being a great standalone bit that is seriously funny and could be the heart of an entire set if expanded on.
I highly recommend the album Mid-Range, available online on June 12!
