New Music Releases: October 20th, 2009

Flight Of The Conchords I Told You I Was Freaky (Amazon)

The musical geniuses behind such timeless classics as "The Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room)", "Hiphopapotamus vs. Rhymenoceros", "Business Time" and, my personal favorite, "Foux de FaFa" are back at it with their second full length album. The new album features hits from the second season of their HBO series, and comes with a lyric book that includes chord charts for each song.

New Moon: The Twilight Saga Official Motion Picture Soundtrack (Amazon)

Twilight fans will be happy to get their hands on the New Moon soundtrack this week. It features tracks from Death Cab For Cutie, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, Anya Marina, The Killers, Muse, Bon Iver & St. Vincent, Sea Wolf, Grizzly Bear and many others. Sorry kids, no RPattz contributions this time.

Kings Of Convenience Declaration Of Dependence (Amazon)

Declaration of Dependence is the third album from the Norwegian Pop/Folk duo (Erik Boe and Erlend Oye) Kings of Convenience. The album tells the story of two people living two very different lives sensing that they are immensely more powerful together than apart. This record promised to be more mature, honest and gripping than previous Kings of Convenience endeavors.

Tim McGraw Southern Voice (Amazon)

When I first saw that Tim McGraw was releasing an album this week I was all, "Oooh! Mr. Amy Grant!" and then I remembered that Amy Grant is married to Vince Gill, not Tim McGraw. Tim McGraw is married to Faith Hill. Anyway, now that we've got that sorted out, Southern Voice is Tim McGraw's twelfth studio album and features the single "It's a Business Doing Pleasure With You" which has been playing on country music radio outlets since late June.

Sufjan Stevens The BQE (Amazon)

The BQE is a cinematic suite from singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens inspired by the Brookyln-Queens Expressway and the Hula-Hoop. It was commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music and performed in the Howard Gilman Opera House in October 2007. The BQE comes as with the film, original motion picture soundtrack, a 40 page booklet with extensive liner notes and photographs and the stereoscopic image reel (playable in all View-Master viewers, just in case you have one of those lying around in your basement).

Electric Six's "Kill" is pretty damn awesome, I pre-ordered it last week so I didn't feel too bad downloading an "illegal" advance copy yesterday for my perusal. Did not disappoint!! The boys even got a little more serious on this, their sixth album since 2003.

I'd love to see them perform on SNL this season, but I just don't think they are up to the calibre of artists on there so far. Wait a few more weeks, Lorne might call them up once he's blown his budget, lol.
