Last night Canada voted more than 3.6 million times. Fancy that.
While Ben is talking to the judges at the beginning of the show, Ben mentions that Zack had nothing negative to say about this week's performances, and asks him if he's okay. Zack retorts with a crack about not being a wind-up toy like Ben is. Well played, Mr.
The theme for tonight is twofold: it's Beatles Night, but it's also Judges' Choice. And man oh man, do the two ever work well together. All five guys totally nail the songs chosen for them.
We've reached that transition period where an hour is too long to fill with five performances, but not enough time to have each contestant do two songs.
Tonight's show can be divided into 5 stages: the group performance, a really bizarre recap of what happened last night, a performance by Simple Plan, a question and answer session, and the results.
Mandi here again, filling in for Ariana while she's on vacation.
It's Canadian rock week for our Top 6, and who better to represent "unbridled Canadian rock" than Simple Plan? *cough*
Regardless, they are the special guests, and they will be performing their new single at the John Bassett Theatre tomorrow night.
Tom Jones! British Invasion! Or UK Hits! Whatever we're calling the theme this year. Tom Jones is orange and stretched.
Mark's singing "Bleeding Love" by... your choice. I guess Leona Lewis, in order to make this a valid choice under the prescribed theme. I like this song, which means I'm not happy Mark is singing it.
Let me just preface this by saying that this episode put me in a bad mood, and I blame Ben Mulroney. I don't know what's up with him this season, but he's extra irritating, instead of the usual annoying-but-he's-ours endearing type of irritating. He's all pause-y and twitchy and stumbly and blinky and... distracted.
Good evening, and welcome to Sixties Night on Canadian Idol. During which Ben Mulroney will (unironically) wear a white v-neck t-shirt under a beige suit. The whole time.
By the way, you may have noticed that I'm not Ariana. She's busy this week helping to plan and execute her best friend's wedding, and she asked me (Mandi) to fill in for her.
