"Okay, season 5; here we go"
So says Liz Lemon as the premier episode of 30 Rock's fifth season gets underway. Tina Fey and co.
Last night may have been Emmy night in Hollywood, but we all know the internet was clamouring for the real winners of the past season in television: The Crafty Monkey Television & TV Achievement Awards!
Liz's building is being converted into condo's and she doesn't want to buy her small one-bedroom apartment because she thinks she will need a bigger place once she has a husband and family. She doesn't want to leave either, however.
Jack takes Liz out to dinner and tells her that NBC wants to produce a Talk Show based on her book, and Starring her. She excitedly agrees, until Tracy and Jenna talk her into getting an agent first to look after her business interests. Tracy and Jenna believe that they should get into the business of solving problems since they gave Liz such solid career advice.
An exhausted Liz arrives back to 30 Rock after travelling around the country looking for the new cast member Jack wants her to hire for TGS. She has just returned from San Francisco and is about to head up to Toronto to continue to look for new talent. Jack says that she should be looking for someone in "middle America" instead.
Liz continues to face the fallout from the release of her successful "That's a Deal-Breaker" relationship book. Virtually every man she meets despises her for the trouble her book has caused them in their relationships with their wives and girlfriends who are now demanding better behavior from them.
30 Rock returns from hiatus for another season after winning a gaggle of Emmy awards in both the performance and behind-the-scenes categories.
The fresh, new season starts with a fresh, new crisis on the set of TGS.
Jack takes Liz engagement ring shopping at a swanky store on 5th Avenue. He has decided that Elisa is indeed "The one" for him. Soon after, Elisa confides to Liz that she has been back in New York for a few weeks without telling Jack. She tells Liz that she loves Jack, but that she has a terrible secret that she cant bear to tell him.
Liz has started serving her 2 week suspension from 30 Rock for sexual harassment but is eager to get back to work as she is stir-crazy without the daily stresses that she usually encounters. She passes her time by attending the mandatory group therapy sessions with the HR department and by boring the doormen in her building to near tears by talking to them since they can't leave.
The crew from TGS has barely begun celebrating successfully finishing their 50th show when Jack pulls Liz aside and tells her that NBC's parent company (Shinehart Wigs) is suffering hard economic times and that cutbacks to the entertainment division are coming.
