Another summer, another season. Fans of the blood trusty sex romping supernatural series, that is True Blood, got their last taste of Sunday night scares tonight.
While everyone else was watching the return of Breaking Bad last night True Blood was starting to close up shop on another bloody season. In typical True Blood fashion the show finishes writing the final chapter of their season an episode early, as the majority of story arcs come to an end on this second last episode of the year.
This past Sunday was all kinds of crazy. Only one death (which was a little surprising considering the title of the episode) however, it seems like the entire cast of characters all pulled a 180 in their respective story-lines.
Winding up to the season finale True Blood is dwindling down its cast. With seven of ten episodes down the show aims for a dramatic end to the season where few characters are safe.
Well it was a bitter sweet Sunday last night in Bon Temp County. True Blood had some big reveals, laid some solid ground work for the rest of the season, and said goodbye to a fan favourite character.
Its been about 10 years since HBO's series OZ but it looks like they are back in the prison game. Gruesome acts on the incarcerated, vicious guards on power trips and inmates being sexuality assaulted. The only difference now is the monsters inside the prison are they are actually monsters.
"At Last", the title for the latest True Blood episode, is a reference to a whole bunch of stuff coming to fruition. Maybe its because of the shorter season this year but True Blood isn't wasting any more time with set ups.
There's a reason "critically acclaimed horror film" sounds like a paradox. The genre suffers from poor production values and inept acting. Clichés cling to them like mange on a stray dog. Their success lies in their ability to capitalize on the most primal human instinct: fear of death.
This is the kind of episode that got me into this series in the first place. Part supernatural, part B-movie style horror, and all around funny as hell.
The all sizzle and no steak (no vampire pun intended) took a turn for the better this past Sunday. The pieces are starting to come together, direction for where this season is headed is becoming clearer, and some new characters are introduced, re-vamping (I swear I'm not doing this on purpose) the series in a good way.
First a quick rundown of what happened in "The Sun".
