Rants & Raves: The New Bachelor

The Bachelor has always been synonymous with cheese but the latest episode took it to a whole new level.
Rozlyn drama aside, Jake's first one-on-one date was essentially a case of Disney Presents the Bachelor: the classic tale of Ali, the girl who is afraid to fly, and her forbidden, exploited romance with the dashing, but boring Jake – the pilot who, in his own words, "can fly anything".
As always, it starts with a note: "Fly away with me". And so it begins.
Jake and his aviators are intent on emulating Top Gun so naturally he and Ali take a wonderfully clichéd motorcycle ride that leads them right to a two-seater plane. After Jake does a scrupulous pre-flight check, they take off; for Ali, that point was "like their relationship taking off". Ali - just tell him you want to be his co-pilot already and get it over with. As the sun sets, we are treated to copious uses of phrases like "cloud nine" and then Jeffery Osborne's power ballad, "On the Wings of Love" crescendos to yield the most cringe-worthy moment of the season.
But with the season still fresh, this cheese can still be topped, and I am as sure as Jake will be shirtless at some point next episode, that the Bachelor will deliver.

I agree--how long are they going to milk the flying thing--i'm guessing the whole series. And more "dramatic rose ceremonies"--each more dramatic than the next. I look forward to the next recap :)
