Review: Mandal – $$$$$$

Posted by: Matthew Ardill  •  October 22, 2026 @ 6:43pm

This past summer I had the pleasure of watching Mandal as part of Josh Johnson's Comedy Band Camp and was blown away by the fun performance getting the show to a powerful start, so it was with great excitement I started watching Mandal's $$$$$$.

JFL Toronto Review: The Lauren & Mary Show

Posted by: Andrew Lizotte  •  October 5, 2026 @ 8:45am

How do you even review an improv show? What have I done? I was so happy to get these tickets and now I'm in hell.

Don't get me wrong, the show was great. It was some of my hardest laughs of the festival.

JFL Toronto Review: Sasha Velour - Travesty

Posted by: Andrew Lizotte  •  October 4, 2026 @ 2:36pm

This is one of the best concerts I have ever been to, period. Probably top five.

The description of the show on the website does not do it justice. It sounds like it's going to be a one-woman show about social injustice and being sad.

JFL Toronto Review: Jerrod Carmichael

Posted by: Andrew Lizotte  •  September 28, 2026 @ 5:41pm

In 12 years of doing stand-up comedy, seeing this show is a moment that truly sticks out for me. I've never felt like I've seen the inside of another comedian's brain, as much as I did last night. Jerrod Carmichael is already one of the most intimate comedians working today.

JFL Toronto Review: David Lynch's Seinfeld

There's a lot to love here. In a Canadian comedy festival that mostly hires Americans, it's great to see a show by some of Toronto's best performers.

Album Review: Greg Proops - Kidding. But Still.

Posted by: Andrew Lizotte  •  June 8, 2026 @ 7:45pm

Kidding. But Still. feels like you're hanging out at a fun New Year's Eve party and Greg Proops just happens to be holding court. Greg is someone I've been watching since I started comedy. A lot of people know him from Whose Line is it Anyway?, but I've always been more impressed by his improvisation as a stand up.

Album Review: Jamel Johnson - Mid-Range

Posted by: Matthew Ardill  •  June 7, 2026 @ 3:16pm

Mid-Range is not Jamel Johnson's first foray into comedy albums. Jamel, who rose up through the D.C. comedy scene and is now a regular at the Improv, launches into a tight and punchy 30ish-minute set.

Album Review: Kyle Bergstresser - You Gotta Get Used to the Boy

Posted by: Matthew Ardill  •  June 6, 2026 @ 4:10pm

A little over a year back, I settled into a seat to watch Kyle Bergstresser record his album You Gotta Get Used To The Boy at The John Candy Box Theatre in Toronto's Second City.

Album Review: Cameron Esposito - Person of No Consequence

Posted by: Matthew Ardill  •  March 25, 2026 @ 7:39pm

Cameron Esposito is a comedian with a solid history: 5 albums, her own sitcom, and multiple film and television appearances, not to mention a 20-year career in the industry. They've easily cut their teeth. Her album Grab Them Aghast is a go-to, where her hunger as a young comic shines through and is immediately charming.

Review: The Muppet Show (2026)

Posted by: Matthew Ardill  •  February 4, 2026 @ 4:12pm

For many of a certain age, the Muppets are a fixture of our youth. The Muppet Show was a show we watched with our parents where we heard jokes that we both laughed at, their movies taught us about friendship, and they were a part of pop culture from top to bottom.
