Late Night Lineups: November 17-21

So, we've unintentionally taken a few weeks off from posting the late night lineups on ShowbizMonkeys.com. Sure, there have been a few great guests over the last while, but this week is MUCH bigger. Why, you ask? Well, you'll have to read on to find out.
Here are the top 5 appearances not to miss this week:
- Martin Short (Wednesday on Conan) - Sure, Martin Short is a funny guy. He's been a mainstay in comedy for decades, especially his time on SCTV and Saturday Night Live. But the main reason to watch Wednesday's episode of Late Night is that YOURS TRULY will be attending the taping! That's right, if they cut to the audience at any time and you look closely, you might see ME in the audience. Also, while I'm in NYC, I might be interviewing several current and past Late Night staff for a video feature to be posted in early 2009.
- Stephen Colbert (Thursday on Letterman) - It's a rare occurrence to see Colbert out of character, but in his previous talk show appearances, he's rarely been "Stephen Colbert" rather than the real Stephen Colbert. The good thing is Colbert is damn funny even when he's himself, so it should make for a great interview
- John Hodgman (Tuesday on Conan) - You may know John Hodgman from playing the "PC" to Justin Long's "Mac" in the Apple commercials, from his appearances as the "Resident Expert" on The Daily Show, or from his bit part in this spring's Baby Mama. But did you also know he was an incredibly clever and funny writer? The Areas of My Expertise, a brilliant fake almanac, came out two years ago, and this past week he released his second book, More Information Than You Require. He should be quite funny making his network talk show debut on Tuesday. And also look for an interview with Mr. Hodgman on ShowbizMonkeys.com sometime soon.
- Paul Simon (Tuesday on Colbert) - Colbert has had a lot of musicians on as guests in the last while -- John Legend, Rush, Wynton Marsalis, Wilco, and many more. So the question isn't whether Paul Simon will perform (he most likely will) but if Stephen will join him in song like he has with many of his other guests. Either way, Paul Simon is pretty cool.
- Cobie Smulders (Friday on Ferguson) - Cobie has recently become a face (if not a name) that many people recognize thanks to her role as Robin on CBS' How I Met Your Mother, many of us have know of her for much longer (actually, one of our staff went to school with her). She's funny and attractive, and I'm pretty sure this is her first late night talk show appearance, so I'm curious what she might be like hitting the couch with Craig.

Good thing I put Colbert's appearance on Letterman in the Top 5, because I'll now be at tomorrow's Late Show taping as well!
