Late night talk show guests: January 10-16

Hello, friends! How was your weekend? Sweet, mine too! Last week saw some great late night television, as I anticipated in this very spot, but this upcoming week sees everything but Carson Daly out of repeats.

Everyone seems to have A+ guests this week, but here are the Top 5 to check out, followed as always by the complete guest listings.

  • Colin Firth (Tuesday on Stewart) - Besides putting in one of the best performances of 2010 in one of the year's best films (The King's Speech), Colin Firth is also a painfully funny fellow. When he was last on The Daily Show a couple months ago, the interview went brilliantly (as it has for all Firth's appearances on TDS over the years), and I would imagine the back-and-forth between Firth and Stewart will be great once again.
  • Donald Glover (Monday on Conan) - It seems like I never stop talking about Donald Glover (or his show Community, in general), but he's so talented and funny that I just can't get enough of him. He's been on Craigy Ferg many times, but it'll be nice to see how he does with Mr. O'Brien. And for those who aren't aware, our 2009 Genius Monkey Award winner is also an accomplished stand-up and rising MC (he's released multiple free-to-download albums under the moniker "Childish Gambino"). Anyway, watch his appearance on Monday (plus, you'll see first guest Adam Sandler -- not a bad bonus). I'm certain you won't be disappointed.
  • Paul Giamatti (Wednesday on Fallon, Friday on Ferguson) - There's been a lot of great talk about Giamatti's performance in his new film, Barney's Version, which even earned him a Golden Globe nomination. The man is also an incredibly funny and affable guy, which of course makes for an entertaining talk show guest. His recent appearances on The Daily Show and Strombo were great, so expect more of the same this week.
  • Lauren Graham (Monday on Lopez) - It's no secret that I'll always jump at the opportunity to see Lauren Graham in anything. I fell in love with her during her 7 seasons on Gilmore Girls, but have enjoyed her in everything I've seen her in since, including her current show (NBC's woefully underrated Parenthood) and any interview and talk show appearance she's done over the years. She's adorable, funny, a bit off-the-wall, and just plain interesting. She should never be missed.
  • Allan Hawco (Friday on Strombo) - For the Canadians (or Americans with access to the CBC), you should have already watched Hawco in the first season of the show he also co-created, The Republic of Doyle. And if you did, then you're no doubt looking forward to this week's Season 2 premiere. It's a fun throwback to 70s-style action shows and movies, following a slightly insane but badass P.I. in St. John's, Newfoundland. Hawco seems extremely likable, so it should be a good interview.
