Late night talk show guests: March 15-21

So Conan O'Brien is going on tour, everyone! Did you get your tickets? They went on sale on Thursday the 11th, which also happened to be the day I was checking out of my hotel in Vegas, so I didn't have internet access and didn't even know they were GOING on sale until they WERE on sale. So I missed out on tickets to one of the five shows around North America that I would've been able to make it to. (Having said that... if anyone out there has extra tickets in Vancouver, Edmonton, Minneapolis, Las Vegas, or Toronto, send me an e-mail and I'd be happy to take them off your hands!)

Still, live shows by a former talk show host don't REALLY have anything to do with late night television, and that's what you came here for, right? I've caught up on most of the last 2 weeks of late night TV that I missed, and there was some good stuff there: Jerry Seinfeld on The Daily Show; Tom Hanks on The Colbert Report; Andy Samberg & Chris Parnell performing "Lazy Sunday" live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon; Regina Spektor's second performance from when I attended a taping of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson back in October finally airing; and even a California Dreams reunion on Fallon (yes, that's the show that aired after Saved by the Bell on NBC Saturday mornings in the 90s). Some guy even returned to his old talk show or something, but I'm sketchy on the details.

Anyway, this week has some fine guests too, even with a couple shows being in repeats. Here are 5 you can't miss:

  • Jimmy Kimmel (Tuesday on Letterman) – This should be entertaining, not just because it's a talk show host from one network appearing on another network's show, but because of the way Kimmel went after Letterman's longtime rival Jay Leno during the late night wars. Then again, that topic may not come up at all!
  • Jude Law (Monday on Fallon, Tuesday on Stewart) – Fresh off a hosting spot on Saturday Night Live (which he did a pretty good job), Jude Law hits the talk show circuit in support of his upcoming film, Repo Man. Besides being the prettiest man in show business, Law is also pretty funny, and not afraid to poke fun at himself, which makes for a good time on these types of shows (especially with Jimmy Fallon, as they've done some pretty fun stuff his last couple appearances).
  • Ted Danson (Friday on Fallon) – Ted Danson was on one of the first episodes of Jimmy Fallon's Late Night about a year ago, and he took the opportunity to spend half the interview whittling with Jimmy. His wife, actress Mary Steenburgen, was on the show not too long ago basically saying it was one of the stupidest things she'd ever seen, so we'll see if Danson has any response to that.
  • Metric (Friday on Carson Daly) – I know it's Last Call, and nobody stays up late enough to even watch the show, and even the people who are up would rather watch an infomercial or the late night Sportscentre loop, but Metric is on! They're one of our favourite bands here at ShowbizMonkeys.com (as indicated by their multiple Melodic Monkey nominations) and you should check them out at every opportunity, even if it means staying up (or programming your PVR).
  • Kevin Pollak Chat Show: Anniversary Show – I don't normally make special mention of KPCS beyond embedding each week's episode below and letting you know who's on each week, but this Sunday's show should be spectacular. Dubbed a show-slash-party, it's likely to feature a number of Pollak's guests from the past year of in-depth interviews and online fun. If you enjoy comedy and personalities, you've gotta tune in. And if you've never seen an episode of the Chat Show before, what better time to check it out than during the celebration of its first year on the interweb?
