The main telecast for the 2023 Juno Awards (hosted for the second year in a row by actor Simu Liu) might not be happening until tomorrow, but the trophies for many of the awards started getting handed out last night in Edmonton.
In an opening that may or may not be a lame tribute to this season of American Idol's boxing-themed finale, the camera zooms in on Theo & Mitch standing against a blackened background, which suddenly illuminates to reveal the audience.
After all this time and all these recaps, we are finally, finally, down to two. I am so irate at CTV for moving the results show to Wednesday. What, I ask you, could possibly be the purpose of this, other than to make all the loyal viewers mad and confuse any new viewers who might tune in only to the finale? And interfere with my Hanson tickets?
DO NOT JUDGE.
After a brief recap of last night's performances (which Drew still wins at), Bryan Adams lies to us that he'll be 18 until he dies. Shame about how rough you look for 18, Bryan.
Back after the commercial, he also sings his new song "She's Got a Way." But he doesn't deign to sing with the Idols, because, I mean, he's Bryan Adams.
Bryan Adams joins us this week to mentor the contestants. Anne Murray is far more useful, even in her sleep. Thanks for nothing, Bryan! Except the songs, I guess, of which each contestant will be singing two.
After the judges' inane chat with Ben, Drew gets his workshop, during which Bryan says absolutely nothing insightful or helpful.
Sir Ben of Orange introduces a recap of last night (you can read my much more informative one here, though admittedly mine is without video or audio) before the Group Sing.
I'm back! You missed me, all five of you, didn't you? Don't answer that. Big ups to Mandi for filling my shoes for the past two weeks. I'm supremely grateful.
It's Anne Murray time here in Top 4 Land.
Last night Canada voted more than 3.6 million times. Fancy that.
While Ben is talking to the judges at the beginning of the show, Ben mentions that Zack had nothing negative to say about this week's performances, and asks him if he's okay. Zack retorts with a crack about not being a wind-up toy like Ben is. Well played, Mr.
Tonight's show can be divided into 5 stages: the group performance, a really bizarre recap of what happened last night, a performance by Simple Plan, a question and answer session, and the results.
Mandi here again, filling in for Ariana while she's on vacation.
It's Canadian rock week for our Top 6, and who better to represent "unbridled Canadian rock" than Simple Plan? *cough*
Regardless, they are the special guests, and they will be performing their new single at the John Bassett Theatre tomorrow night.
